Updating
S3Manager does not auto-install updates. Instead it checks for new versions and notifies you so you can download and install the update yourself.
How update checks work
Section titled “How update checks work”On startup, S3Manager queries the GitHub Releases API to compare your installed version against the latest published release. This check runs at most once per day — if the app already checked today it will skip the startup check.
If a newer version is available, a toast notification appears at the bottom of the screen showing the new version number: “Update available: x.y.z”.
Checking manually
Section titled “Checking manually”You can trigger an update check at any time from Settings → Check for updates. The result appears immediately below the button:
- “You’re on the latest version” — no update needed.
- “Version x.y.z available” with a Download link — a newer release exists. Click Download to open the release page in your browser.
Disabling startup checks
Section titled “Disabling startup checks”In Settings, uncheck “Check for updates on startup” to stop automatic checks. You can still check manually at any time.
Installing an update
Section titled “Installing an update”S3Manager does not download or apply updates in the background. To update:
- Go to GitHub Releases (or click the Download link in the update notification).
- Download the installer for your operating system.
- Install it following the same steps as a fresh install — see Installation.
On macOS and Linux, replacing the existing app with the new version is sufficient. On Windows, re-running the Squirrel installer updates the existing installation in place.
